Now, with the annual PARK(ing) Day coming up on tomorrow, they’ll be making a more, ahem, urbane attempt at creating a peaceful urban space around of the neighborhoods most hectic intersections, even if it’s just for a day.

If you’re not familiar, PARK(ing) Day’s delightful yearly exercise in absurdity predates our neighborhood parklet by a solid 5 years. (Although the REBAR Group, who designed the original project in 2005, did help out with the walklet at 22nd and Bartlett.) In previous years metered spaces around the city have been transformed into croquet lawns and  kiddie pools, and Fix Fell’s contribution on the South side of Fell Street between Divis and Scott is kind of a no-brainer given their cause.

Cyclists and commuters who use the Wiggle-Panhandle route should already be accustomed to remaining calm while motorists whiz by them on Fell street, but if you need a little help relaxing in such close proximity to the internal combustion engine there will be free chai and herbal tea, as well as chillout music and comfortable lounging options to help you forget that you’re basically sitting next to a freeway.

Last Thursday some intense black metal shit went down at The Independent. (Presumably, this is necessary every couple of months to exorcise all the hippie ghosts that build up in the rafters of that place.) Some of the growls vocals weren’t even in English! Anyhow, one of the three bands that played that night didn’t want to call it quits so they took their act to the streets wearing very black, and very Mortal Kombat-esque outfits.

I honestly have no way of figuring out which band it was (either Volbeat, Dommin, or A New Revolution) because of how this particular genre of music isn’t really marketed towards my particular demographic, and a Google image search for those three acts just turns up a lot of photos of dudes wearing black and not a single person in Raiden suit.

Either way, I managed to snag some photos from an adjacent rooftop with my night-vision camera because I’m secretly Batman. Here’s the whole slideshow, don’t miss the ones of the Heavy Metal Hot Dog Cart Dishing out Devil Dogs:

Look, I’m not going to pretend to know what’s going on here, but this track from Lurkdat-Twerkdat (feat. “production by that 4loko drinkn [Asian girl] Tiu Wong”) popped up on her twitter and it’s probably the best song ever penned about Polk St. working girls and their love of geology. I’ve honestly listened to this thing about 5 times already (only 2 of them ironically) and I think it’s got legs. Like this could be the one song we all hear when we go out to bars or clubs or crack dens this weekend. Lurkin’ on Larkin’

It’s got enough drug and prostitution references to get some spins at the Attic (or maybe just Double Dutch) and the beat is definitely dirty enough to go down in the back room of the Cat Club. Added bonus: the lyric “party on Polk” will probably hook the Russian Hill population of Gap Corporate employees and their boyfriends. Seriously, it’s got something for everybody in this town. OK, Internet, do your thing.

BREAKING – In a NOPA District coffee/art/sandwiches/earth-tones establishment, a young man finished his second beer and felt the desire for a cigarette despite having allegedly quit two months ago. No word on whether the falafel will be finished or whether he’ll stare at it for another fifteen minutes.

There is word on the wire that he’ll attempt to talk to the girl at the counter about “what she does” and “records”. More on this story as it develops.

If you’re semi-decent at math, you could probably figure out that the next Divisadero Art Walk is going to be on Thursday, June 4th. But since these things always get us super excited around here, we’re feeling the need to point out that our friends behind the every-three-months cheap(er) booze session have officially updated their dot-blogspot with the news. No word yet on the specials and participating venues, but we reckon it can’t be too different from the March lineup.

Of course, there is a new dessert option at Chile Pies on Fulton & Baker, and if the rest of the drink specials don’t cause you to stumble down Divis, you can now grab some last-call tequila shots at Nopalito.

Mike Giant posted some photos from his art opening/friend’s brithday party at Bender’s last week, which I know isn’t technically in the neighborhood, but Giant was our neighbor for the lognest time, so I’m contractually obligated to post photos from any of his events. It’s not so bad when they’re gems like the one of Jeanette Simmons up there. Oh, and I’d like to apologize to the Birthday Girl, Vitti for assuming she was a dude from the name on the flyer. Sorry Vitti!

Has it been three months already? Our friends behind the Divisadero Art Walks have updated their blog to announce the next round of art sales, food specials, and extended happy hours on and around Divis. Right now, the line up of deals looks as solid as ever: $1 oysters at Bar Crudo. Half off at Acme Burgerhaus, Little Star, Tsunami Sushi, and Bar 821 among others. Live art at Bean Bag, and new art openings at pretty much every place that hangs stuff on their walls. Oh and you get a “free desert” [sic] with a $15 purchase at Da Pitt/Lilly’s BBQ. No word on where he’ll be setting up shop next, but he’ll be showing off previews of the work he’s done for his upcoming solo show in Milan that starts February 25th. Since he’s been showering the neighborhood with love in the form of free beer and attractive ladies, let’s show him some love tomorrow night to make sure he stays in the neighborhood once he gets back from Milan.
