Protest a Bunch of Stuff and Make a Park at the Fell/Divis Arco
by Andrew Dalton on June 10, 2010
At this point we all really hate British Petroleum, right? And in the neighborhood, I think most of us agree that we already hated the Arco at Fell and Divis because that fucking place was really a pain in the ass to pull into and then you had to pay in cash at that stupid vending machine thing and some bitch in a Range Rover pulls in the wrong way and now somebody’s blocking the bike lane, something something, we’re all pissed off.
But tomorrow, at 5:30pm, some of your neighbors from the Wigg Party who also hate BP are going to be greening up the Petrolscape by creating (another) temporary pocket park at the much-loathed-but-now-even-more-loathed Arco station. So here’s the deal:
Tomorrow, Friday, June 11th, 5:30pm at the Arco Station on Fell and Divis. You bring the park-making supplies like potted plants, benches, seating, etc, and BP will provide billions of gallons of oil (Is that how many gallons there are? I actually have no idea how many gallons there are.) It might seem like a tiny and temporary green space on Divis won’t really save the lives of any majestic Gulf Condor Pelicans or whatever, but at least you can disrupt some shit and probably piss off some drivers and generate more business for the Spirit Gas across the street. If nothing else, you’ll at least give Rob Anderson something to blog about.
Recommended Beverage: They usually stock a couple microbrews from Louisiana brewers Abita across the street at New Star Ell.
Read the whole Wigg Party Manifesto and get more details over on the Facebook event page.

I appreciate the shout-out but we’re not actually organizing the event. We’re just happy to have the opportunity to express our dissatisfaction over both of these issues with other members of the community. Thanks for helping to spread the word.
If you need oil, you could just squeeze RA. Oh, wait, that’s if you want shit. Never mind.
Read this and think whether you’re making a difference, or just making noise:

So I’m not allowed to comment when I’m knocked? Pretty lame, Andrew.
Rob, as an approved commenter and neighborhood voice, you’re welcome to comment whenever you like. I’m not sure where you got the impression you couldn’t.
What happened to my first comment? I guess it just disappeared into cyberspace.
