Let’s Talk About Your Weekend Plans
by Andrew Dalton on May 13, 2010
This weekend is the most in-the-middle-of-May of all the weekends in May, and I think we all know that this marks the yearly return of one of our greatest traditions. That’s right, it’s the 10th Anniversary of the North of Panhandle Neighborhood Block Party on Saturday! Bring the kids!
In case you’re new to the neighborhood, or if you’ve overlooked this event in the past, Saturday is probably your only chance to get drunk outdoors this weekend. (I am 100% sure that there will be zero other opportunities for acceptable day drinking in the streets this weekend.) So, what can you expect to see at this event? Well, I still remember my first North of Panhandle Neighborhood Block Party like it was yesterday: there was a moon bounce, people brought their dogs, some kids were selling rice krispie treats that were guaranteed to not have drugs in them, and a DJ set up on a folding table next to Parkside Liquors where the owner (and event sponsor) David was running a special on Danzka Grapefruit Vodka which mixed terribly (well!) with whatever Red Bull-knockoff knockoff happened to be in the front of the drink cooler that week. A quintessential San Francisco experience, if you will.
This year they’re splitting it up into a Little Ones section and an “Adult” section (sexy!). The adults get: live music, DJs, tarot card readings, magicians, and local crafts. The Little Ones section sounds way cooler with: clowns, a moon bounce, snacks, Tae Kwon Do and Fire Trucks. Either way, Parkside BBQ will be smoking some meat, and you can eat out tacos at the Kung Fu Taco truck as well. (No word on if they’re in the Adult or Kiddie sections, though.)
The NOPNA.org site has scant few details, but we do know this thing will be running from 11am – 6pm and there’s no cover to stroll around, but you might have to bribe the SFFD to let you turn on the siren if you’re older than 9 years old.
So there you go. Anything else going on this weekend?
