Inner Richmond Bar Hocking Overpriced Ike Turners

by Andrew Dalton on May 4, 2010

What is this travesty? No, not the fishy-eyed perspective of this photo – We’re talking about the Buckshot in the Inner Richmond encroaching on Madrone’s creative property and then overcharging you for it. Are people in the Inner Richmond just total suckers? (They must be or they wouldn’t live in the Inner Richmond, right?) Granted, the cocktail-making industry has a long history of re-appropriating the work of other mixologists (barf), how else would we have so many different kinds of terrible martinis? But a google search for “Ike Turner Drink” reveals a Hawaiian Punch-based cocktail that sounds like something a desperate college sophomore would make out of desperation, so I don’t think this is a commonly accepted drink formula. If you ask us (you didn’t, but still) this should be categorized more along the lines of stealing jokes from superior comedians.

When reached for comment AggressivePanhandler’s own Derek Bradley and current record holder for Most Ike Turners Received said, “The Buckshot stealing Madrone’s amazingly creative and extra-tingly drink special should result in me taking a bottle of whatever I want when the bartender’s not looking and then kicking that bartender in the throat while on my way over to the not-free-anymore skee-ball machine. Good job, Buckshot. (unless you guys didn’t actually steal the drink or whatever, in that case, I’ll have one. Thanks).”

Hopefully, the $1 premium is a licensing fee paid out to the original creators and not a “But We Have Skee-Ball!” surcharge because that would just be saddening.

  1. My face still burns from my first Ike Turner… that’s right. Over a year ago, from a crazy pony-tailed dude at the Buckshot. I don’t recall seeing the Ike Turner at Madrone until January this year.

Doing a quick search on yelp, (yelp for fact checking… imagine that) and there are documented reviews going back to 2008 for the Buckshot but only summer 2009 for Madrone.

Are you sure the Buckshot poached this shot?

  2. I can vouch for ordering an Ike Turner at Madrone as early as Spring 2009. (Yelpers can be unreliable… imagine that)

Regardless, Madrone’s owner Spike says he says he got it from some bar in Oklahoma years ago. Unverifiable, I know, but Spike’s always been a straight shooter. Still doesn’t change the fact that the Buckshot taxes you a dollar on it, either.
