Don’t call it “DoPa”
by Andrew Dalton on September 28, 2009
The other day, the fine folks over at Mission Mission overheard (you know, via twitter) the ultimate San Francisco faux-pas: trying to create your own catchy abbreviation for your hyper-specific location. In this case the offending party mistakenly referred to Dolores Park as “DoPa”.
Nice try, bucko, but we’re laying claim over here to any and all “__Pa” abbreviations.
In related news:
- “SoPa” – Sopa is still something you order at a taqueria, not that park in SoMa with all the french cafes and homeless people.
- “FUPA” – you’re free to continue using this one.

jie: please do not use violent language if you are accusing someone of doing just that. The term you used to refer to this girl (whom I am not defending) is one that is loaded and, akin to swastikas, a symbol of intolerance and hatred. As a Jewish woman, I find both incredibly offensive and hurtful. Yes: my family was killed the Holocaust, and I have women in my family who were killed because of their genders (as women). So please, think a bit more before you speak. Thanks. - please...
